Loose Deuces at Springbok: a deuces wild table built around four 2s

Loose Deuces at Springbok is deuces wild with the weight moved onto one hand. At one coin, four deuces pay 500, beating the 300 a natural royal pays at that stake; only with five coins in does the royal pull ahead, at 4,000. Every 2 is wild, the paying hands start at Three of a kind, and stakes run from R0.05 to R25.00 a hand.

How Loose Deuces plays at Springbok

The round is Springbok's standard draw: pick the coin value and the number of coins, take five cards, hold any of them and replace the rest once. With all four 2s wild, the machine reads each deuce as whatever card gives you the best hand, and it deals a single hand per round. Lobby reading · 9 Oct 2026 (opens the source)

What sets this machine apart is where the table puts its weight. Four deuces return 500 coins per coin, where Springbok's plain Deuces Wild returns 200, and the middle rows are smaller to pay for it. A straight flush returns 5, a full house 3, and a flush or a straight 2 each.

Winning hands can go into Double or Nothing, where your card must top the dealer's to double the amount. On a machine where most wins are small and the big one is rare, that gamble can quietly swallow a session's small wins, so set your rule for it before the first deal.

The Loose Deuces pay table and the published versions

Set Loose Deuces beside Springbok's plain deuces game and the trade is easy to see: one big row up, three middle rows down.

Against the published versions, Springbok's table is a recognisable one. The Wizard of Odds prints nine tables on its Loose Deuces page (one of them headed Deuces Wild), and Springbok's rows match one of them exactly once the royal is counted at its full five-coin rate: the version whose straight flush pays 5 per coin, the lowest straight flush on that list. The other eight pay between 6 and 11 for that hand, and two of them also pay more than Springbok's 15 for five of a kind.

Bob Dancer, answering a Las Vegas Advisor reader in 2022, explains why a game like this feels so different from standard Deuces Wild. So much of what it pays back is tied up in four deuces, which he puts at roughly once every 4,664 hands on average, that the swings are far wider. The schedule in that answer pays 2,500 coins for four deuces, the same figure Springbok's screen shows at 5 coins. In practice that means long runs of three of a kinds and empty hands between the deals that matter. No figure is published for what Springbok's machine returns overall, and this site does not estimate one.

Why the fifth coin can change a Loose Deuces hold

Move from one coin to five and every row simply multiplies by five, with one exception: the natural royal, which leaps from 300 to 4,000. A natural royal can only be made without deuces, so the leap only matters on deuce-free deals that hold royal cards. On those, it can flip the right hold.

Take a deal with the Queen, Jack, 10 and 8 of hearts and the 8 of diamonds. Scoring every possible draw against Springbok's rows gives a different answer at each coin count. With one coin in, keeping the four hearts for an inside straight flush draw comes out ahead. With five coins in, keeping only the Queen, Jack and 10 for the royal does.

The pair of 8s trails both options either way. The wider point is that a habit learned at one coin count can mislead you at the other, so choose the coin count first and the holds second. The guide to reading video poker pay tables covers the 5-coin royal in general.

Holding notes for Loose Deuces

The Wizard of Odds offers a Loose Deuces practice trainer, but we found no free written chart for the game, and the full-pay Deuces Wild chart was built for a table that pays four deuces far less. So the notes below come from counting every possible draw against Springbok's Loose Deuces rows. Unless a note says otherwise, the answer was the same with 1 coin and with 5. Each one trims the house edge on that hand and nothing more.

  • Three deuces: keep only the deuces, even when the deal is already five of a kind or a wild royal. With four deuces paying 500 per coin, the chance at the last 2 is worth more than either made hand, narrowly so against the wild royal.
  • Two deuces in a made straight flush or four of a kind: keep the straight flush whole, or the four cards that make the four of a kind, rather than falling back to the two deuces.
  • No deuces, two pair: keep one pair and draw three. Two pair returns nothing here, and a single pair comes out slightly ahead of both.
  • No deuces, four to a flush or a low pair: keep the pair, by a small margin.
  • No deuces, three to a royal against a low pair: the three royal cards come out ahead even with one coin in, and by more with five.

Breaking a paying hand to chase four deuces is the right call on this table only in the cases above, and it still misses far more often than it lands. A run of misses is how this machine normally looks; it never means four deuces are due.

The same three-wild-card deal is played the other way on Sevens Wild, where five of a kind is kept. The strategy basics guide explains the deuce-counting habit these notes build on.

Stakes, practice and phones

Coin values run from R0.05 to R5.00 and you can play 1 to 5 coins, so a hand costs R0.05 to R25.00. Because the royal only reaches its full rate with all five coins in, size the coin value so that five coins fit the budget, rather than trimming the coin count.

Open Loose Deuces from a phone: that is where its table was read. The desktop notice that the Flash version is gone was recorded on 9 October 2026 for Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild. Before staking anything, Try It! lets you run the three-deuce and coin-count holds on practice credit, which stood at R1,000.00 at the reading; Springbok states that this credit is not topped up. The wide swings Dancer describes cut both ways for a budget. Size the session so it can take a long run without four deuces, and stop when it is spent rather than raising the coin value. If that gets hard, the NRGP line on 0800 006 008 is free and confidential, and this site's responsible gambling page covers Springbok's own limits.

How Loose Deuces compares

Questions players ask

Why does four deuces pay more than a royal flush in Loose Deuces?

At 1 coin it does on Springbok's screen: four deuces return 500 coins and the natural royal 300. The royal only overtakes it with all five coins in, when it returns 4,000 against 2,500 for four deuces.

Should you break five of a kind to keep three deuces in Loose Deuces?

On Springbok's table, yes. Counting every possible draw, three deuces alone come out ahead of a dealt five of a kind, and narrowly ahead of a dealt wild royal, at 1 coin and at 5 coins, because four deuces pay 500 per coin.

How is Loose Deuces different from Deuces Wild at Springbok?

Both make every 2 wild and pay from three of a kind. Loose Deuces returns 500 for four deuces against 200 on Deuces Wild, and pays less for a straight flush, a full house and a flush to balance it.

Does Loose Deuces count toward Springbok bonus wagering?

Not at all. Springbok's terms leave video poker off the list of games that clear wagering, and a bet on an excluded game can cost you an unfinished bonus along with anything it has won. Keep Loose Deuces for cash play.

Is Loose Deuces a high-variance game?

It swings more than standard Deuces Wild. Bob Dancer's 2022 answer in the Las Vegas Advisor ties that to how much of the game's value sits in four deuces. Springbok publishes no figure for its own machine.
