Pay Table Room guide

Video poker pay tables explained, from the top row down

A video poker pay table lists every hand that wins and the total it returns for the coins you bet. Read it as rows and columns: hands run roughly from the rarest at the top to the lowest paying hand at the bottom, and each coin column shows what a hand returns at that bet. Two machines with the same name can carry different numbers, so the table tells you more than the title on the tile.

How to read the rows and coin columns

Start at the bottom row, because it tells you what kind of game you are looking at. On Springbok's Jacks or Better machine the last row is a pair of Jacks or higher. On Deuces Wild it is Three of a kind, because with four wild 2s in the deck a plain pair turns up too often to pay. On Pick Em Poker it drops to 9s or Better (a pair of 9s or higher). Everything above is a ladder of scarcer hands, and the numbers climb with them.

The figures are totals, not profit. When a pair of Jacks returns 1 coin on a 1-coin bet, you have your stake back and nothing more. Two pair, returning 2 coins on the same bet, is the first row on that machine that leaves you ahead on the hand. Multiply any figure by your coin value to turn it into rand.

  1. Start at the bottom row

It names the lowest paying hand. Anything weaker returns nothing, so it also tells you which pairs are worth keeping.

  2. Check for wild cards

Deuces, sevens or a Joker change which hands are possible. Five of a kind only appears on tables that have wild cards.

  3. Read across at your coin count

Use the column for the number of coins you plan to bet, then multiply by your coin value to get the rand amount.

  4. Compare the middle rows

The full house and the flush are where versions of one game most often differ, so check those two before the top line.

  5. Look for jumps and odd labels

A row whose 5-coin figure is more than five times the 1-coin figure, or a label that does not fit the rules, changes how you should read the rest.

To try it, open the full Jacks or Better table below, tap a hand to see an example, and switch Show pays as to rand at any coin value from R0.05 to R5.00.

Why the 5-coin column pays more for a royal

Most rows simply scale with the bet. Put five coins in and a full house, flush or straight returns five times what it returns for one. The royal flush usually breaks that pattern: on Jacks or Better at Springbok it returns 250 coins at 1 coin but 4,000 at 5 coins, far more than five times as much. The pay-table viewer marks rows like that with a small +.

That jump is why published strategy charts price the royal at its 5-coin rate. If you play video poker at all, the cheaper way to keep the royal bonus is a smaller coin value with all five coins in, rather than one coin at a bigger value. Five coins at the lowest coin value cost exactly what one coin at the next value up costs, as the stakes table shows.

Not every Springbok machine follows the pattern. On Bonus Deuces Wild the natural royal returns 800 coins at 1 coin and 4,000 at 5, exactly five times as much, so on that machine a full bet earns no royal premium. On Loose Deuces, four deuces return 500 at 1 coin, more than the royal's 300, until the fifth coin lifts the royal to 4,000. Read the 5-coin column on each machine rather than assuming.

A bigger bet is still a bigger bet. Settle the coin value your session budget can carry first, and only then the number of coins.

Full pay and short pay: one name, several tables

"Full pay" is the label players and strategy sites give to the most generous common version of a game. "Short pay" means a version with one or more rows trimmed, and the trim usually lands on the full house and the flush, because those hands come round often enough for a single coin to matter across a long session. Nothing on a machine's tile tells you which version you have. Only the table does.

Reference figures: the full-pay Jacks or Better and full-pay Deuces Wild tables, and the Bonus Poker table paying 8 for a full house and 5 for a flush, as printed by the Wizard of Odds (see sources). Springbok figures: the game screens, read 9 October 2026.

By that yardstick Springbok's Jacks or Better is a short-pay table: its full house and flush each return less than the version strategy guides call full pay. Its Bonus Poker matches the common table on the full house and flush but returns less for a straight flush and for four aces. Its Deuces Wild fits neither label, with four of a kind lower than the reference table and the full house and flush higher.

This is also why a strategy chart built for one table is only a close guide on another. The strategy basics guide names the published charts this site cites and where Springbok's tables part ways with them.

Why the same game can return differently

A pay table fixes what each hand returns, not how often each hand arrives, and a machine's long-run return comes from the two together. Change one row and the deal shifts for every player over thousands of hands, though the cards, the rules and the name stay the same. Trim the full house and the machine keeps a little more on average; raise the four-aces row and value moves from common hands to a rare one.

Your own decisions are the other half. Every published chart is worked out against a particular way of holding cards. Throw away a high pair to chase a flush, or keep a spare high card beside a pair, and the return on your hands falls below what the table allows. That half is the subject of the holding guide.

What you will not find on any of Springbok's machines is the resulting percentage. No game screen, help page or Springbok page we read states a return-to-player figure for its video poker, and this site does not work one out. Comparing two tables row by row shows which hands each one favours; it does not show that either will pay you more tonight.

Springbok's tables were identical at R0.05 and at R5.00 a coin on the 12 machines read at both values on 9 October 2026. The other 3 were read at one value only, and each of their tables carries a note saying so.

Quirks to look for on Springbok's tables

Every value on this site is copied exactly as the game shows it, odd ones included. Five are worth knowing before you sit down at a machine:

  • A label that does not fit the rules. Bonus Poker and Aces and Eights both show a row called "4 Deuces w/Ace", although deuces are not wild in either game. Their help pages describe that position differently, so read the label as a display quirk.
  • Two rows, one payout. On Double Double Jackpot Poker, four aces with a King, Queen or Jack beside them return 160 coins at 1 coin, the same as four aces with any other fifth card.
  • A figure that is not a multiple of five. The straight flush on Pick Em Poker shows 200 at 1 coin and 1,199 at 5 coins.
  • A top row that is not the top payout. At 1 coin, four deuces on Loose Deuces return more than its royal flush, as shown above.
  • No 5-coin royal bonus. The natural royal on Bonus Deuces Wild scales evenly with the coins.

None of these is a reason to skip a machine on its own. They are reasons to read the whole table, top to bottom, at the coin count you plan to use. All 15 tables sit side by side on the home page if you want to compare them in one place.

Pay tables and Springbok bonuses

One more line belongs beside every video poker table, even though it is printed in Springbok's terms rather than on the machine. The terms name the games whose bets clear bonus wagering (a sister guide lists the games that count toward Springbok wagering), and video poker is not among them; worse, staking on a game outside that list before wagering ends can void the bonus and whatever it has won. Verified · 9 Oct 2026 (opens the source) A pay table read with a bonus running is a table you may not get to keep.

So the table you read is the whole arrangement when you play from a balance with no bonus attached: cash in, the table's returns out, plus comp points, which Springbok's terms award at 1 comp point per R10 wagered; the terms we read set no separate rate for video poker. Questions players ask

What does full pay mean in video poker?

It is the label for the most generous common version of a game's pay table. For Jacks or Better, strategy sites give it to the table returning 9 coins for a full house and 6 for a flush at 1 coin. Springbok's Jacks or Better returns 6 and 5, so by that definition it is a short-pay version.

Why does a royal flush pay more with 5 coins?

Most machines reward a full bet with a bigger royal award. At Springbok, Jacks or Better returns 250 coins for a royal at 1 coin and 4,000 at 5 coins. Bonus Deuces Wild is the exception in this lobby: its natural royal scales exactly with the coins.

Do the numbers on a pay table include my bet?

Yes. They are the totals returned for the coins bet, so a hand that returns 1 coin on a 1-coin bet only gives your stake back. The first row that leaves you ahead is the one paying more than your bet.

Can you work out the RTP from a pay table?

Not from the table alone: you also need the chance of every hand under a given way of holding cards. No Springbok source states a return figure for these games, and this site does not calculate one.
